Artists Profile
Adjahdura Artist: Farrin (Wockoo - Spider) Miller

Farrin in the baby of the group. He’s 16 years old and in year 11 at Maitland Area school. His environment - the sea - animals - and his culture, influence his paintings.

Farrin shows rare talent for someone his age. He says, “I like painting - it keeps me calm - and I can concentrate on what I’m doing“.

Jo Jo, the leader of the Adjahdura Aboriginal Coastal Artists, taught Farrin how to paint - and because he showed so much promise was asked to join the Adjahdura Artists group.

Farrin is a real water rat - he loves the water and spear fishing - and is keen on camping and listening to music. His choice in music is interesting; rap, country and classic.

Farrin says, “Living on this country is alright - Point Pearce is it’s own little world -you need to get off it sometimes”.

Spiders intrigue Farrin - he picks them up all the time - hence the nickname, Wockoo (Spider).

An important part of his cultural learning is the knowledge of Dreaming - his uncle has been telling him Dreaming stories - and giving him an understanding of the importance of these stories to their culture - what they represent - and the associated cultural landscapes that are connected with the stories.

Farrin is going to study to become a motor mechanic and hopes to be successful in his trade and as an artist.
