LETTER TO THE EDITOR
30/1/05
What's happening at Wattle Point Wind Farm is not only a crime against Aboriginal heritage; it's a crime against Aboriginal culture. About one month ago skeletal remains were found at the site. The developer desecrated a burial ground of our ancestors. The government is saying it's not the original burial ground, but I have strong evidence to dispute this.
I also have strong evidence that Wind Turbine 4 was built on part of a registered archaeological site that the Minister said was to be protected. The boundary of the archaeological site, next to Wind Turbine 4, was compromised and put in the wrong place to suit the developers. We wanted that Turbine moved out of the area but no one took any notice of us and the developer did what they wanted.
Now hundreds of ancient artefacts and tools have been discovered at Wind Turbine 4, so even without the skeletal remains, the site at Wind Turbine 4 is very significant.
After finding the artefacts and skeletal remains at Wind Turbine 4 the developer just continued desecrating the site, breaching the Aboriginal Heritage Act. This is a disgraceful, money hungry act.
Our heritage continues to be decimated on the Yorke Peninsula and it's obvious that this state government isn't serious about the preservation of Aboriginal heritage and culture or they would be listening.
